Serious question: Can you be a successful pro makeup artist and be unattractive?

I have far from perfect skin but I love doing makeup and would love to do it professionally. What are my actual chances of being successful?Serious question: Can you be a successful pro makeup artist and be unattractive?
As any type of artist, and there are so many so unattractive by the way, the main thing is what you can do. People have respect for artists because they have a talent and most important they make something else look good. When someone buys a painting, they buy they pretty painting not the bag lady looking artist, same thing with designers and make up artists, people who look for a make up artist want them to make them look good, they dont care how do you look. Pat McGrath is always freshfaced when doing make up at fashion shows, would you think she is the incredibly good make up artist she is if you just looked at her wearing little to no make up?, there is your answer.. Good luck!

No! You have to be decent looking or no one who owns a beauty salon in California, New York, or Florida will hire you.

Why would you want to be unattractive? Anyone can look attractive if they take care of their skin, eyebrows, and applied some mascara and eyeshadow. It just shows laziness if you don't take care of your skin.

Get your skin cleared up by using cleansers, toners, exfoliants, masks, peels, serums, and moisturizers that are good for your skin type.

Beauty salons need to start focusing on the people that they hire if they blindly hire people with bad skin to do makeup on their clients. It should be taboo to hire people with bad skin to do makeup. It doesn't increase the amount of clients willing to get their makeup done at their salons.

I don't care if my hairdresser has bad skin because hair not the face is his or her talent.

You only need to go to your nearest drugstore or beauty supply store or favorite grocery store that has a beauty care section or shop online for necessary cleansers, toners, exfoliants, masks, peels, serums, and moisturizers.

A mask and and a peel only need to be done twice a week tops with store bought products or you can just go to a spa that specializes in chemical peels once or twice a month and get a light chemical peel to remove the dead skin that is making you look unattractive.

Good skin is important for everyone and for any job at a beauty salon. Clients want attractive people working on their hair and makeup.

That is the truth! These makeup artists who work in the beauty salons put their face on by wearing face makeup and eye makeup to make themselves look more attractive but before they put on their makeup they take care of their skin. You won't see unattractive people working in salons in California or New York. It just doesn't happen! People take care of their skin in California. It is required of all Californians to take care of their skin. Makeup looks better on your face when you take care of your skin.

There is a reputation and the illusion of sheer perfect beauty that these women and men have to project to the client.

As far as I am concerned, if the makeup artist is attractive then I know that I will look gorgeous when she or he is done with my makeup. It just makes me feel more secure with their ability to make me look my best.

I would feel very uncomfortable with someone with obvious bad skin doing anything to my face whether it is putting makeup on me or giving me a chemical peel.

I just know how it is in California, Arizona, New Mexico, Florida, New York, and Massachusetts. I have never seen an unattractive person working in salons or makeup stores in these states.
what probably matters would be how good you are at successfully being able to conceal any flaws that you might have using the makeup you work with. say you have a monster zit but you were able to minimize it into nothing using good techniques. i'd be impressed by that.

take pat mcgrath; she's not exactly the most gorgeous woman, but she is the queen of makeup artistry, hands down.

where i work (sephora), there are a lot of skincare consultants who have AWFUL skin and complexions. that's when you should be worried!
yes you can, but you need to look professional and put together. your skin can be fixed-see a dermatologist. you shouldn't be selling skincare products and have bad skin cause they would wonder why you didn't use it, and assume you are lying.

but if you just aren't the prettiest/hottest girl ever, but you look well groomed and put together, than that is fine.
I was Thinking this today too! I have Seen really Not so good looking people work as Make-up artist, hairdressers and work at the reception desk at A Salon. I think It has to do with, your personality and your style I look at peoples style before I see their looks really. Being fixed and well Dressed is the Thing I think.
I say you'll have an excellent chance at becoming a GREAT makeup artist if you're good at doing it ;)

It doesn't matter what you look like. If you got skillz, you got skillz! hehe I say go for it. I see some girls working at MAC that have imperfections, bad skin, oily skin etc.. but they sure can apply great makeup! So please, give it a try =]
Being knowledgeable about makeup and having great makeup skills are what matter!

You don't have to be beautiful to be a makeup artist.
i would assume if your good at your job thats all that would matter, now saying that... if you walked in for the job with horrific makeup job on yourself........... ionno
you might have a good chance, but hard
